Are you looking to elevate your professional development? Consider applying for a position on the SMPS Oregon board of directors. The chapter is now accepting nominations for positions on the Board of Directors for the term beginning January 1, 2027.
SMPS Oregon is led by 11 dedicated members who volunteer their time to guide the chapter. The board is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the chapter and aims to enhance the professional growth of our members by providing high-quality educational and networking programs. Additionally, the board ensures that the chapter remains financially responsible for our members now and in the future.
Not to mention, we have a lot of fun! Serving on the board is a great way to connect with fellow members and learn collaboratively. It is an enriching experience that offers leadership and growth opportunities outside of those offered in your day job.

Eligibility
All elected positions to the SMPS Oregon Board of Directors must be willing to serve their full term and attend monthly board and committee meetings. To be eligible for election as a member of the SMPS Oregon Board of Directors, an individual must be a Regular or Distinguished Life member of SMPS and must have been a member for at least one (1) year as of the date of their term of office commencing. No individual may hold more than one board position at any time. All board positions require an individual to have served on an SMPS Oregon committee for at least one (1) year (with preferences to those who have served on the committee for which they are nominated).
To be eligible for election as President-Elect, the individual must have served one (1) year on the Board of Directors for SMPS Oregon, the Board of Directors for another SMPS chapter, the Board of Directors for SMPS National, or held a position as a committee chair.
Open Positions
President-Elect
The President-Elect is a voting member of the SMPS Oregon Board of Directors and of the Executive Committee. In the absence of the President, the President-Elect shall preside at meetings of the Chapter, the Board of Directors, or the Executive Committee. When acting as President, the President-Elect shall have all the powers of and be subject to all the restrictions upon the President. The President-Elect shall perform such other duties as may be assigned by the President or Board of Directors. The President-Elect becomes the President the following year and the Past President the year after, resulting in a three-year cumulative term. In addition, the President-Elect shall chair the nominations committee, be a member of the executive committee, be an ex-officio member of all standing committees and secure annual sponsorships for the chapter.
Treasurer-Elect
The Treasurer-Elect shall serve a one-year term in preparation for assuming the office of Treasurer. The Treasurer-Elect becomes the Treasurer the following year, resulting in a three-year cumulative term consisting of one year as Treasurer-Elect followed by a two-year term as Treasurer. The Treasurer-Elect is a non-voting member of the Board of Directors. The Treasurer-Elect shall support the Treasurer in the coordination and development of the annual budget, financial reporting, banking activities, and other duties incident to the office of Treasurer. The Treasurer-Elect will be part of the Treasury Committee and shall work closely with the Treasurer to develop an understanding of the Chapter's financial operations, policies, and responsibilities to ensure a successful transition into the Treasurer role.
Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (JEDI)
The Director of JEDI is charged with collaborating with other Board members to ensure all SMPS Oregon activities and operations are developed and implemented with attention to JEDI. The JEDI committee will also plan, develop, and implement both educational events and networking opportunities with a focus of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion for the chapter.
Director of Membership
The Director of Membership is charged with maintaining current membership, acts as the SMPS Oregon member contact on all issues related to membership, and is responsible for increasing Oregon Chapter membership. The membership committee is also in charge of hosting new member coffees and the annual GROW event.
Director of Programs
The Director of Programs is charged with planning, developing, and implementing networking and learning opportunities for the chapter, including the annual Market Mixer. The content is geared to client panels and speakers with a goal of providing education and insight on topics relevant to the A/E/C industry and current market conditions. The Programs committee will also plan the annual Boards, Bags & Brews event.
Nomination Process
Call for Nominations
The SMPS Oregon Nominations and Elections Committee issues a call for nominations to the chapter members. Nominations may be submitted by an individual (self-nominations are the most common method) or by petition until September 15, 2026 at 5:00 pm PDT. Petition nominations must be signed by a minimum of 10 percent of the chapter membership.
Evaluation and Slate Formation
Once the call for nominations closes, the Nominations and Elections Committee reviews all submitted nominations and evaluates each nominee based on their qualifications, experience, and alignment with the chapter’s goals and values. The committee selects a slate of eligible candidates who best represent the interests of SMPS Oregon. The slate is designed to ensure a balanced and effective board composition.
Election Process
If there are no contested positions, the Nominations and Elections Committee will declare the committee’s slate elected. If there is a successfully petitioned nomination that competes with a candidate recommended by the Nominations and Elections Committee, a ballot for the contested position will be distributed to the membership.
