Chapter Scholarships

Throughout the year, SMPS Oregon offers several scholarships to chapter members as a way to give back to our membership. These are scholarships currently available:

The Lynn Parsons Educational Scholarship

To fulfill our organization’s vision to transform business through marketing leadership, the SMPS Oregon Board of Directors created the Lynn Parsons Educational Scholarship, which honors the late Lynn Parsons, a beloved ambassador of our marketing community. 

This scholarship provides current Oregon chapter members with the opportunity to pursue ongoing professional development. Recipients of the scholarship will receive a full registration to one of the following certificate programs from the Center for Executive and Professional Education (CEPE) at Portland State University School of Business Administration:

Award Details

The scholarship covers the full registration fee for the selected certificate program. SMPS Oregon will reimburse tuition costs after completion of the certificate program.

Application Process

Applications will be accepted from April 1 through April 30, 2026 with the scholarship awarded before May 22, 2026.

Eligibility Requirements

All SMPS Oregon members are eligible.

Judging Criteria

Candidates should be able to demonstrate their commitment to their career as an A/E/C marketer through professional development activities, participation in the SMPS Oregon Chapter, and the contributions they have made to their firm in their current position.

Fill out the entire scholarship application and email the completed application to Nicole Haman. If the application is not complete, the applicant is not eligible.

Selection Process

The SMPS Oregon Executive Committee, at its discretion, will determine who and the number of award winners each year. The Committee will award at minimum one scholarship per year, but may award additional scholarships depending on the number of entries and financial strength of the chapter at the time of submission.

Note: If you win this scholarship, you are ineligible to win any other SMPS Oregon scholarships for two full years from this scholarship's award date.

The SMPS Oregon Executive Committee at its discretion, will determine who and the number of award winners each year. The Committee targets between 2-3 winners each year, but this is dependent on the number of entries and financial strength of the chapter at the time of submission and it reserves the right to reallocate the scholarship if at least three applications are not received. If you win this scholarship, you are ineligible to win any other SMPS Oregon scholarships for two full years from this scholarships due dates.

Leora Casey CPSM Scholarship

The Leora Casey Memorial Scholarship was created to honor a long-standing member of the Oregon SMPS Chapter. Leora Casey was a significant part of the Oregon chapter and participated in many programs and processes that helped shape the chapter. She had a passion for the A/E/C industry and the pursuit of consistently improving fellow marketer’s roles within their firms, she was a force to be reckoned with. It is with great sadness that Leora passed away in November of 2014, a huge loss for our chapter.

Part of Leora’s endeavors was championing the CPSM certification program within SMPS and mentoring other marketers. She co-chaired the CPSM study program for many years and helped raise the bar for standards among the program. To honor Leora’s dedication to SMPS Oregon and the CPSM program, the chapter has introduced the Leora Casey CPSM Scholarship. The SMPS Oregon Chapter will reimburse the CPSM exam fee ($275) for members.*

*SMPS Oregon will reimburse members up to six months after passing the exam.

Jeff Morin Membership Scholarship

Each year, the SMPS Oregon Chapter offers a free annual membership in honor of Jeff Morin. Jeff was a devoted member of the Oregon chapter and the Membership Committee for many years, holding various roles, including Committee Director multiple times. His unexpected passing due to illness in 2020 left a significant void in our industry, our chapter, and especially within the Membership Committee.

Jeff was a familiar presence at chapter events, always greeting others with warmth and engaging in meaningful conversations. He made it a priority to connect with newcomers and those who may have felt alone in a crowded room, encouraging us all to step outside our comfort zones. In recognition of Jeff's commitment to fostering connections, this membership scholarship was established to ensure that his legacy continues within SMPS Oregon.
